University Research Management Organization Long Message
University Research Management Organization (URMO) was established
In April 2026, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology University Research Management Organization (University Research Management Organization (URMO) was established. The Institute was newly established by merging the University Research Administration Center, Deep Tech Industrial Development Organization, and Nishi-Tokyo Innovation Co-creation Centers (Encounter Hall), which had research management personnel such as URA in TUAT.
With the aim of improving TUAT 's research capabilities and social issue solving capabilities, the Institute conducts research information collection and analysis, research strategy planning, external funding, project management, industry-academia collaboration such as joint research, intellectual property-related work, and startup development. In addition, Director will participate in the management of the university and act as an organization integrated with university management. In addition, we would like to focus on the development of research management personnel, and we plan to reform the personnel system and evaluation system for research management personnel as an organizational initiative, and improve the skills of individual human resources.
Since its founding, our university has had a tradition of emphasizing practical learning, and there is an academic culture in which each faculty and staff member actively engages in industry-academia collaboration and solving social issues. The URA organization of the university, which promotes such initiatives, began in 2011 with the establishment of the Research Strategy Center after being selected in the first year of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "Development of a System for Fostering and Securing Research Administrator" project. After 14 years, last year it was selected for the "System Development Project for R&D Management Human Resources" of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. Through this, we would like to make further leaps forward by increasing the number of research management personnel and reforming the organization.
Although the organization has just taken its first steps, we hope for your understanding and cooperation in University Research Management Organization 's activities.
Special Mission Trustee for Project and Research Management
University Research Management Organization Chief Yasuhiro Itakura

Business development support / Startup support
Entrepreneurship is one of the social implementation of research results. Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology provides consistent support for starting a business using the research results of our university from before to after starting a business.
The university is promoting the formation of an open innovation center that aims to create new academic fields through the fusion of different research fields, and supports startups aiming for social implementation based on the university's research results. In addition to promoting industry-academia collaboration through large-scale joint research between "organizations" and "organizations", we support the research activities of Faculty Member and other researchers on campus, such as supporting Faculty Member and students to start their own businesses and implement them in society based on their own research.

With support from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "Project for the Development of Facilities for Industry-Academia-Government Collaboration and Joint Research through the Cooperation of Regional Core and Distinctive Research Universities," we have partnered with the National University Corporation University of Electro-Communications and the National University Corporation Tokyo University of Foreign Studies to establish the "West Tokyo International Innovation Co-creation Hub/Kaikokan" facility on the Fuchu Campus, creating a positive cycle between the needs of the Tokyo Tama region (West Tokyo region) and the research seeds possessed by the universities.
This facility aims to become a hub for gathering the intellectual value of the Tokyo Tama (Western Tokyo) region and developing it into a global industry, thereby bringing international attention to the area.
Focusing on agriculture, food, and energy, this will become a hub for co-creating a new future with the people of the West Tokyo region.
