Tokyo Global Passport

Tokyo Global Passport is a grant-type scholarship program provided by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government for university students who wish to study abroad.

Main requirements and features

  • ?Applicants must be Japanese citizens at the time of application and throughout their study abroad period.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a domestic university or other institution at the time of application and throughout the study abroad period.
  • Applicants must have a primary breadwinner (generally the father or mother) who has continuously resided in Tokyo for at least one year. *No income restrictions.
  • Those who will be 30 years of age or younger as of April 1, 2026
  • The university or institution where the person is enrolled authorizes you to study abroad, and the host institution authorizes the acceptance of the person.
  • Applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher (a perfect score of 4.0) at their current university; however, university freshmen must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher over their three years of high school.
  • Those who possess a certain level of language proficiency
  • Applicants must be able to participate in pre- and post-study training and cooperate in raising awareness of the program and promoting the significance and benefits of studying abroad (ambassador activities).
  • Support is not available for language learning (activities aimed at language acquisition) only.
  • Cannot be combined with other overseas study programs

  1. TUAT students who wish to apply should register on campus using the form below.
  2. Please carefully review the application guidelines and application manual before submitting your application documents. You are responsible for preparing all necessary documents yourself and submitting them within the application period set by the university? (details on how to apply are included in the application manual for university students).

About letters of recommendation

Please make a request to the Supervisor doctor with plenty of time to spare your schedule. After fully explaining your study abroad plan, please check and sign all the confirmation fields in the letter of recommendation (Application Guidelines Attachment 2).
If you are an undergraduate student and have not decided on a Supervisor, please ask the teacher of the Board of Education.

About transcripts

Failed courses will not be displayed on our university's transcript. Therefore, please create an image of your most recent grades (showing your grades from enrollment to the time of application) from the "Credit Acquisition Status Inquiry" screen on SIRIUS and use it as your "Transcript (Course Registration Screen)."

Please complete both on-campus registration and the submission of application documents via Gakushi within the period specified below.
