United Graduate School of Agricultural Science Admissions Policy

(Learning Objectives)

United Graduate School of Agricultural Science contributes to the deepening and development of biological sciences related to the maintenance and improvement of biological production, the utilization of biological resources and functions, and the preservation of biological materials, while mutually complementing fields that are difficult to expect from a single university alone, and fosters researchers with advanced specialized skills and abundant academic knowledge in bioutilization science and environmental science that apply these sciences. The purpose of this program is not only to contribute to the development of agriculture, which is a major part of the science related to the development of biological resources, which is indispensable for improving the lives of mankind, but also to the progress of science and the development of various fields of biotechnology-related industries.

(Admissions Policy)

Based on the purpose of education, research and human resource development, United Graduate School of Agricultural Science is looking for the following human resources.

Today, humanity is facing unprecedented crises such as the destruction of the global environment, rapid population growth, and resource depletion. Maintaining an environment in which all life on earth can coexist, securing safe food, securing resources to support our daily lives, and maintaining healthy lifestyles are indispensable for supporting our "life and livelihood. It is no exaggeration to say that the 21st century is the era of agricultural science.
In order for agriculture to contribute more than ever to the survival and welfare of humankind, it is essential to develop human resources with advanced research and analytical skills. In response to such social demands, the Graduate School of Agricultural Science, based on the education at Ibaraki University, Utsunomiya University, the Graduate School of Agricultural Science at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology and Graduate School of Agriculture, aims to develop as a core doctoral graduate school in Japan and Asia, pursuing creative and functional education that enables students to acquire a broad perspective, advanced specialized knowledge, understanding, insight, practical skills and Specialist The Graduate School of Medicine aims to develop as a core doctoral program in Japan and Asia, pursuing creative and functional education that enables students to acquire a broad perspective, advanced specialized knowledge, understanding, insight, and practical skills.
The students we seek to admit to the program, whether in Japan or abroad, should be students with specialized knowledge and skills in agriculture and related fields, or researchers and engineers active in society, and should have a strong interest and motivation in the research area they will be involved in after entering the program.

Department of Biological Production Science (Doctoral Course)

We provide advanced and in-depth education in theories and technical issues through research in fields that contribute to agricultural production, such as the physiology and ecology of crops, livestock, and silkworms, genetic breeding, and animal and plant protection. When plants are the subject of education, we aim to integrate the theories related to plant production from the perspective of agronomy and turn them into technology. When animals are the subject of education, we provide education that enables students to take an advanced and broad perspective, from basic to applied, when solving the theories and technical problems necessary for efficiently utilizing the functions of animals. When plant pests and weed control is the subject of education and research, we provide education and research that allows students to understand these issues as common problems for a wide range of plant species, rather than focusing on the specific plant in question.

  1. Applicants must have an interest in research into plant production science, animal production science, and biocontrol science, and a desire to contribute to society and the world through activities in these fields.
  2. Those who have sufficient basic knowledge of plant production science, animal production science, and biocontrol science, as well as the ability to discover and solve problems, and are eager to take on the challenge of new research fields.

Department of Applied Life Science (Doctoral Course)

The aim of this program is to analyze biological reactions, which are the basis of life phenomena, to establish the basis for the production of materials necessary for human survival, as well as to apply and develop these technologies. The program offers a comprehensive education in the science and technology of utilizing biological resources and biological functions, and preserving biological materials.

  1. Applicants must have an interest in applied biochemistry and biofunctional chemistry research and a desire to contribute to society and the world through activities in these fields.
  2. Students should have sufficient basic knowledge of applied biochemistry and biofunctional chemistry, the ability to discover and solve problems, and the desire to boldly take on new research fields.

Department of Symbiotic Science of Environment and Natural Resources (Doctoral Course)

With population growth and the expansion of production and consumption, the limits of human activity on Earth are becoming apparent, and we will scientifically elucidate the characteristics of biological resources, and comprehensively study the efficient production and conservation of resources, the conservation of the global environment, and the science of nature conservation. We also regard the restoration of the environment that has been deteriorated by human activity and the rational development of the technology and methodology for this as issues in education and research, and provide education that organically links the science of the biosphere, which is necessary for humankind to live sustainably, from the comprehensive standpoint of the sustainable production and use of biological resources and environmental conservation.

  1. Applicants must have an interest in research into forest resource material science and environmental conservation, and a desire to contribute to society and the world through activities in these fields.
  2. Those who have sufficient basic knowledge of forest resource material science and environmental conservation studies, the ability to identify and solve problems, and the desire to boldly take on the challenge of new research fields.

Department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering (Doctoral Course)

Through research on a range of fields, from basic to applied, we provide comprehensive education and research in the fields of engineering technology that will support sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural production in the future. These fields include engineering related to farmland soil and water, which are the foundation of agricultural production; engineering related to regional water use, water quality management and conservation of the aquatic environment; conservation of regional resources and regional environmental planning; systems engineering related to the optimization and efficiency of agricultural production; and environmental control engineering in crop and livestock production and the processing and distribution of products.

  1. Applicants must have an interest in agricultural and environmental engineering research and a desire to contribute to society and the world through their activities in this field.
  2. Those who have sufficient basic knowledge of agricultural and environmental engineering, the ability to identify and solve problems, and the desire to boldly take on new research fields.

Department of Science on Agricultural Economy and Symbiotic Society (Doctoral Course)

We provide comprehensive education and research that allows us to investigate various socio-economic issues, such as the ideal state of symbiosis between humans and nature, the ideal state of a symbiotic and sustainable social system, the ideal management organization that enables efficient and environmentally friendly agricultural production, resource-recycling food production and distribution and the ideal regional community system that makes this possible, the ideal actors in the entire process from agricultural production to consumption (food system), and the ideal state of ownership, distribution, and allocation of agricultural resources and agricultural products.

  1. Applicants must have an interest in agricultural and forestry coexistence social sciences and a desire to contribute to society and the world through activities in that field.
  2. Those who have sufficient basic knowledge of agricultural and forestry symbiosis social sciences, the ability to identify and solve problems, and the desire to boldly take on the challenge of new research fields.
